Primary Punch Literacy Centers I have had a lot of questions about how I run literacy centers in my room lately. We don’t use Daily 5, our county has it’s own framework it wants us to use but with the new Common Core we aren’t limited to using a basal reading series anymore which is great! This is a long one but full of good information and hopefully some new ideas. So, here is how literacy centers goes down in my room of 2nd graders! First let’s start with the Tic-Tac-Toe. This is my “contract”, I make a new one each week and it has all my kiddos center information on it for the week.

While pictures and posters can sometimes be very helpful, you need to be careful to only use what is necessary to avoid overstimulating your toddler class. Pay close attention to the areas in your classroom you think would benefit from a few visual aids and try using them. If they do help, keep them up. If they cause more confusion than necessary, consider removing them until the children are ready to use them.
There are several places around the classroom I personally find visual aids to be very beneficial. The Daily Schedule Most toddlers will not function well in an environment where there are lots of surprises. Keep this in mind when you plan your toddler curriculum and daily schedule. Most toddlers will thrive on consistency and therefore, you should attempt to keep your daily schedule close to the same each day.

Some of them really hit home and truly touched my heart. Before I share the winner, I would like to share with you my most rewarding aspect of teaching. I love to know that my job is making a difference. We are responsible for educating the next generation. We are making a difference in children’s lives.
Many of my students just want someone to listen to them and care about them. I know some of you work in lower income schools like myself and these kiddo’s stories just break your heart. I come to school each day looking to make a difference in one of my kids day, whether that be give them hug, talk with them, or teach them something new. I love teaching and I wouldn’t do anything else no matter the amount of money they would offer.
Secondly I love teaching because it helps me get all my creative juices out. I have loved to do crafty things since I was little. I never wanted to watch T. I would beg my mom to take me to the local craft store so I could buy a craft to make. Well guess what we are still doing that.

Good hearted and hard working school teachers take on the task of organizing the outdoor education trip for their primary and middle school students; they educate parents and students, organize paperwork, collect money, and lose sleep. Once first day of program arrives, everyone heads up to the mountains where we take over. Visiting teachers have a very free form role in our program; we need their help supervising during meals and in the case a student cannot participate in the program.
Other than this they are encouraged to interact with the students, watch classes, catch up on school work, and, like the students themselves, just enjoy their time in the fresh air.

Alphabet Sight Word Readers The alphabet sight word readers were designed to not only introduce and review initial letters and their corresponding sounds but also to introduce pre-primer and primer sight words. I believe very strongly that sight words should always be introduced within a meaningful context prior to completing the activities outlined below. I use a sided number die but you can use a blank die instead.
This will vary depending how many numbers you expect the students to know. I place the chart in a page protector. If the student is able to say the sight word that represents that number, they can mark this off using an erasable marker. A blank game board can be found in the link below: Children would take turns inserting a coin and twisting the dial to make the rock s roll out. If the rock s have a star on it, then it would be placed on the printable version of their machine game board shown in the photograph.
They must also say the name of the sight word. The object of the game is to see who can fill their gum ball machine game board first with rocks. Rocks that do not have stars on them would be discarded. Alphabet Game Version The game would be played similar to the above but instead the alphabet letters would be printed on the decorative rocks. Digging for Valuable Gems Write sight words on larger clear accent gems found at the dollar store.
